Federal Work-Study

Lake-Sumter State College administers the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program in accordance with state and federal regulations, as well as Lake-Sumter State College procedures. The LSSC Financial Aid Office is responsible for determining student eligibility and for the overall allocation of positions.

This federally funded program provides part-time jobs for eligible students to enable them to earn part of their college expenses while gaining valuable experience.

Funds are allocated each year by the federal government based on availability, number of needy applicants, and utilization of funds in prior years. Students will be awarded based on their eligibility determined by their FAFSA information. FWS funding is limited, therefore not every student that meets the general eligibility criteria will receive an FWS award.

In order to qualify for a FWS job, a student must meet the following conditions:

Submit a Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • Be a citizen or have permanent residency in the United States. Students who hold visitor or student visas are not eligible to participate in this program
  • Demonstrate financial need through the financial aid application process and receive a FWS award
  • Have documents that establish both identity and employment eligibility (e.g. Social Security card and Driver’s License)

Students must be enrolled and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress to be eligible for the Federal Work-Study program. Visit the Financial Aid Work-Study Program web page to learn more about the program.
