Program Description
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree at Lake-Sumter State College complements the coursework and clinical experiences of the ASN, providing a seamless and efficient pathway to a BSN degree.
RN to BSN Admissions Requirements
The RN to BSN program has two admissions requirements:
1. Cumulative GPA of 2.5; and
2. A valid unencumbered FL RN license or Compact license (passed NCLEX exam) OR Authorization To Test (ATT) upon admission and passing score on the NCLEX by the end of the first semester in the RN to BSN program.
RN to BSN End-of-Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Synthesize knowledge from nursing science and liberal studies to apply critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and decision-making skills that improve nursing care of individuals, families, and communities through the life span.
- Incorporate effective interprofessional and collaboration skills to provide safe, nursing care that promotes patient preferences, mutual respect and improved health and outcomes.
- Analyze the concepts of nursing leadership and management in the ethical principles of professional nursing to promote safe and quality outcomes of wholistic care in various healthcare environments.
- Examine the use of information technology to promote the delivery of safe, quality nursing care.
- Integrate nursing research, theory, and current trends related to nursing practice that promotes health and provides access to healthcare for diverse populations.
RN to BSN Program Outcomes
Program Completion Rate

Benchmark: 85% of students will finish the RN to BSN program within 100% of program length or 2.5 calendar years.

Job Placement Rate
|
Benchmark: 85% of BSN graduates will be employed full- or part-time in a nursing position within six months of graduation.

Graduation Requirements
As per the amended Florida Rule 6A-10.02413, prior to the award of an associate in arts or baccalaureate degree, LSSC students under the 2021-2022 Catalog and thereafter must demonstrate competency in civic literacy through one of the following options prior to graduation:
- successfully passing POS 2041 American National Government or AMH 2020 U.S. History Since 1877 and achieving a 60% or higher on the Florida Civic Literacy Exam , or
- successfully passing a prescribed assessment:
AP Government & Politics Test: United States (passing score of 3), or
AP U.S. History Test (passing score of 4), or
CLEP: American Government (passing score of 50)

Fulfill the Florida Foreign Language Competence requirement for bachelor’s degrees, even if this requires the student to exceed 120 total semester credit hours. Students may fulfill this requirement by successfully completing one of the following options:
- Completion of two (2) credits at the secondary (high school) level in the same language
- Complete and pass the elementary 2 level or higher of one foreign language at the college level
